Major in Public Health
History
The department of Public Health Undergraduate School was established in 1984, with master's and doctoral courses in public health and health & beauty studies (skin science, hair science, make-up science, alternative medicine). Approximately 50 undergraduate and 10 graduate freshmen are admitted each year. 1,613 bachelors, 130 masters and 128 doctors have graduated as of August, 2018.
Educational Objectives
Public Health is a life science, pursuing the promotion and maintenance of general health. The department of public health aims to cultivate qualified health experts with advanced academic knowledge, dedicated to public service in the fields of environmental health and toxicology, occupational health, food hygiene and safety, health welfare and management, through comprehensive education and intensive training.
Major Facilities and Instruments
- Scientific Instrument Center at the Department of Public Health : Stereomicroscope, image analysis apparatus and computers for data analysis
- Laboratory of Public Health : Deep freezer, apparatus for extraction and concentration, high speed centrifuge and microscopes
- Cell Culture Room : Inverted microscope, CO2 incubator, water bath, centrifuge and ELISA reader
- Environmental Hygiene Laboratory : GC, extraction apparatus, rotary evaporator, high volume air sampler
- Biological Toxicology Laboratory : Tissue processor, paraffin embedding center, microtome, UV-Vis spectrophotometer and PCR
- Food Hygiene Laboratory : HPLC, clean bench, refrigerated microcentrifuge and Incubator
- Environmental Toxicology Laboratory : Clean rack, skin measurement apparatus and Western blotting apparatus
- Health Research and Information Room : Computers for data analysis, camcorder and LCD projector
